High Volume No Longer Means Static

High volume manufacture used to mean one or two products, a stable design, and a fixture that earned its keep across the whole product life. That model is increasingly rare. Ranges stay broadly constant, but the boards underneath them keep changing — variations for different markets, revisions to hold cost, upgrades to keep customers and defend market share.

That puts competing demands on test. It has to be quick enough to keep pace with the line, thorough enough to catch faults before they reach the field, cheap enough per board to make sense at volume, and flexible enough to absorb the next revision without starting again.

Balancing all of that is difficult, and rarely cheap. What we can offer is that most of it we have seen before.
